Mamidikaya Thokku Pachadi

Description

Delicious pickle made with shredded pieces of mango flavored with mustard powder.

Mango - 1 cup shredded

Red chillies - 20

Mustard seeds - 2 tablespoons

Fenugreek seeds - 1 tablespoon

Hing - pinch

Oil

For Seasoning

Mustard seeds - 1 tablespoon

Chana dal - 1 tablespoon

Zeera - 1 teaspoon


Methods/steps

  • Shred mango pieces finely and keep aside.

  • Fry red chillies in a pan and keep aside.
  • Now roast mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds.
  • Be careful and avoid over roasting the ingredients since the taste turns bitter.
  • Add hinge and make a fine powder and keep aside.

  • Mix the prepared powder, salt with shredded mango pieces.
  • One can either mix in pestle and mortar or in a blender by stirring in once.

 

4)

 

  • In a pan add 2 cups of oil and heat the oil.
  • Add mustard seeds, chana dal and zeera and fry them.
  • Add to the prepared mango mixture.
  • Mix well. Make sure the oil floats since the pickle absorbs most of the oil in 5 minutes.
  • Delicious Mamidikaya Thokku pachadi is ready and serve with hot rice.

 

Additional Tips

Add chilli powder for its flavor and color.
