Mixed and cooked Moong Dal with onions, tomatoes, chillies and tamarind. Blended well and seasoned with mustard seeds , zeera and garlic.

Pesara pappu (Moong Dal)  - 1 cup

Onions - 1

Tomatoes - 2 cut into big slices

Chillies - 10 to 12 based on level of hot you want, slit the chillies into two halves

Tamarind - 1 big pinch

Turmeric - 1 teaspoon

Salt

Coriander - chopped for garnishing

For Seasoning

Mustard Seeds - 1 teaspoon

Chana dal - 1 tablespoon

Zeera - 1 tablespoon

Methods/steps

Take Pesara pappu (Moong Dal), Tomatoes, chillies, tamarind, turmeric in a pressure cooker. Add  2-3 cups of water and cook for 4 -5 whistles.

Once cooked mash the dal and keep aside.

Take a separate pan. Add and heat sufficient oil.

Splutter mustard seeds. Then add Chana dal and fry them. At the end add zeera and chopped onions and fry till onions turn golden brown.

Take a little quantity of dal and add to the fried onions and mix well. Now mix this mixture with the remaining dal and add sufficient salt to taste.

Garnish with coriander leaves and tasty dal is ready. Goes well with rice.
